Thanks from our President
The UWA Hockey Club has enjoyed a sensational year in 2009 with just a few of the highlights below;
· Our senior club increased in size to 21 teams with the addition of a Metro 1 grade. We are now the largest club in Perth when the two SOAK’s veterans clubs are included in the statistics. We currently have seven current or ex international players in our top squads and an Australian 2009 Junior World Cup player who is home grown.
· Including SOAK’s we now have 1002 hockey playing members of the UWA Hockey Family and 750 live in the western suburbs.
· We had a total of twenty nine players in national and state teams and we also provided several coaches and selectors.
· The Women’s Division achieved the outstanding result of seven out of nine teams in the finals and two Grand Final wins.
· The Men’s Division achieved six out of twelve teams in finals and two Grand Final wins
· Our junior club grew to 30 teams plus nine J1/2 teams and nine J3/4 teams. This amounts to 585 junior players and 160 volunteers actively involved each week. We had twenty two out of thirty teams in finals and won three grand finals plus 3 J5/6 team who finished on top (no finals in this grade).
· Financially the year was one of the best ever as was the performance of the Superturf Facility where we have a 50% interest with UWA Sports.
· We now have a Strategic Plan to guide our future and a Facilities Development Plan is being prepared to upgrade the Sports Park Hockey Facilities.
· Our home games were a buzz and our parties were legendary.
All this could only be achieved with the mammoth commitment of a huge number of volunteers as administrators, coaches, supporters etc etc. You have done a fantastic job and the club really appreciates your efforts throughout the year.
