Pre-season Details

Please note:

This season, a preseason for new players and grades 3s-10s is running on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. These start on 1st February 2012. The second session is on Saturday 4th February at Jubilee Park, City Beach at 8am. Further times and locations TBA.
Running will start later than in previous years. There is an expectation that people manage their own fitness training as required prior to the commencement of formal sessions.
Trial dates and scratch match dates subject to change. Notification will be sent out by captain email and posted here in the event of any change
There is the potential for additional practice matches to be arranged as needed

Pre-season Training In Squads will commence from the week commencing Monday the 19th of March. Squad training times to be announced.

Trial Dates:
Sunday the 11th of March, 10am - UWA Turf - all new players and grades 4s-10s from 2011
Sunday the 18th of March, 8am - UWA Turf - all new players and grades 4s-10s from 2011

Scratch Matches (3s-5s from 2011 and requested new players):
Sunday the 25th of March, 10am - UWA Turf
Sunday the 1st of April, 8am - UWA Turf
Sunday the 8th of April, time TBA - UWA Turf

Season Starts Weekend of the 21st/22nd April.

HOCKEYROO TO COACH UNIVERSITY OF WA

Former Australian striker, Olympian and ex Queenslander now residing in Perth, Suzie Faulkner, has been appointed by the UWA Hockey Club as 2012 Women’s AHG League coach.

Faulkner who has played with University for the past 3 seasons, played 105 games for the Hockeyroos from 2003-2008 scoring 44 goals with career highlights being the 2004 Athens Olympics (5th), 2006 World Cup (2nd) and gold at both the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the 2003 Champions Trophy.

Faulkner becomes the first woman to coach University in 14 years joining 1988 Olympic goal keeper, Kathleen Partridge and ex Australian captain Jennifer Wealand who have also coached the students.

University are chasing a hatrick of premierships this year and the 14th for the club which first won in 1949.

When asked about the challenge ahead, Faulkner said “I’m excited about working with and supporting the talented playing group at Uni which last year included 6 WAIS Diamonds. There’s also a wealth of good young players that I’d like to work closely with and hopefully have an influence in their careers ahead.” “To win 3 seasons straight is not going to be easy, however, we’ll continue on from last year, we know how to win and with luck on our side the results will come.”

The 2012 season commences 21st April.
